Leadership Curriculum

Leadership

All the following are previews of leadership material that I have been writing over the past year. Email me if you would like a full copy.

Creative Speaking
Speaking is one of the hardest taught elements of being a leader because many people tend to think that you have to be born with this skill or it must come extremely natural. The truth is while it may be more natural to some than others, the only thing that holds you back from speaking like a leader is experience. It will only take a short amount of time before you start to see progress in your speaking ability.

Speaking to your team

When communicating with your team it is important that you show confidence. The very backbone of your team can rely on your voice tone and hand gestures. Be aware of how you speak and the manner in which you communicate. When you speak you do not have to yell but be firm. There will be sometimes when more love is required in your voice than others. It is up to you to determine that moment and that person’s level of vulnerability. You will have some team members you could run over and they wouldn’t falter, but there will be others that being gentle but precise will be necessary. In all cases though always speak clearly and do not run your voice at the same pitch for too long or you will start to lose interest from your team…

Find Someone to Replace You

The Asset
God has given us many different talents, gifts, and understanding of different things. With those things you are given some responsibilities. One responsibility is to use those gifts and knowledge in the right way. Secondly, you are to teach other people what it is that you know. I have heard pastors and managers say before, that if you want to keep your job, then you need to become invaluable to that business by making sure nobody can do your job the way you do it. This is an age-old idea for job security and self esteem, but can be a wrecking ball to your business. Leaders may think this challenges your employees to be better at what they do, but instead of creating competition it creates a gap in talent, communication and training. Instead of making sure nobody can do your job better than you, each employee should have somebody picked out that they are training to do their job better than they can one day. A mentorship or even tiers of management can provide this opportunity accurately. Organizations have to separate themselves from the mindset of sustaining for today and move toward preparing for tomorrow…

Know Your Goals

Goals make dreams come true
Knowing your goals is an important part of being a leader. If you do not have anything that you want to be, then you have nothing to aim for.  If you have nothing to aim for, then you will not hit anything.  Setting goals is an important part of seeing dreams come true.  Planning correctly, ahead of time, can be invaluable to your success in the future.

Today, Tomorrow and the rest of my life
There are three ways to view goals in your life, short term or “today”, medium or “tomorrow” then the rest of your life or “long term”. What are your goals that you want to accomplish today so that you can be different tomorrow? Today is a reference to this season in your life. Today, you may be a student, intern or just trying to work your way up in a job, but tomorrow you have different dreams and aspirations to arrive in. The drive that is inside of a leader is a drive of never being satisfied or never arriving at a final goal. Because of this, your goals for today, even though you may accomplish them, are continual and recurring. You will never run out of these three ways to set goals because soon tomorrow will become today and everything that you work your whole life for will one day arrive.  Once you arrive at a goal that goal, will instantly be replaced by a new goal that will continue to propel you in the direction of your own long-term goal or dream…
